Choosing a GoodWe system

GoodWe is one of the most widely installed inverter brands in Australia, and the range is broad enough that the model matters more than the badge. We fit ten inverters and two battery families from them, spanning a 1.5 kW single-string unit to a 125 kW commercial array.

Which GoodWe inverter suits which house

The XS series from 1.5 to 3.0 kW is a single-MPPT inverter for small arrays — a unit or a townhouse with one clear roof plane. One MPPT means one string, so if your roof faces two directions this is the wrong unit and the DNS G4 with its two MPPTs is the right one.

The hybrid range is where most decisions get made. The ESA series is an all-in-one: the EHA inverter and the matching BAT battery modules in one stack, sand-coloured, designed to be installed together. The EHB and EH Plus are conventional hybrids that pair with a wider set of batteries. All three run 5 to 10 kW single-phase, and the honest difference between them is less about performance than about whether you want the storage decision made now or later.

The BP series is the one people miss. It is AC-coupled, which means it adds a battery to a system that already has solar without touching the inverter you already own. If your existing inverter is only a few years old, that is usually cheaper and less disruptive than replacing it with a hybrid.

Where GoodWe is not the answer

  • If you want maximum output from a heavily shaded or complex roof, panel-level optimisation from SolarEdge or microinverters from Enphase will beat a string inverter, GoodWe or otherwise.
  • If you are set on a specific third-party battery, check compatibility before committing — the ESA range in particular is designed as a matched set.
  • For very large commercial arrays the ET and GT units are capable, but the deciding factor is usually your switchboard and export limit rather than the inverter.

A note on the ESA range. ESA is a family, not a product. The EHA is the inverter; the GW5.1-BAT and GW8.3-BAT are the battery modules. Quotes sometimes list "ESA 5 kWh" without making clear which half you are getting. Ask which model number is on the inverter and which is on the battery.

What we check before quoting GoodWe

Your phase, because the single-phase hybrids stop at 10 kW. Your switchboard, because a hybrid with backup needs space for the changeover. And your distributor's export limit, since on many Victorian supplies that caps the useful inverter size well below what the roof could carry.

Not sure which GoodWe option fits your home?

We design your system from your usage and roof — and recommend the exact combination with honest reasons why. No pre-made packages.
